Tree Mountain - a Living Time Capsule by Agnes Denes

Tree Mountain - a Living Forest of Four Centuries, 10 000 Trees Planted by 10 000 People! A huge man-made mountain measuring 420 meters long, 270 meters wide, 28 meters high and oval in shape, is located in Pinsiö gravel pits, Ylöjärvi. Designed by pioneering environmental artist Agnes Denes. During September-October 1995, the mountain was planted with 10 000 trees according to an intricate mathematical pattern derived from a combination of the golden section and sunflower / pineapple pattern designed by the artist.

Tree Mountain is international in scope and unparalleled in duration. It is an undertaking dedicated to benefit future generations with a meaningful legacy.

The project Tree Mountain is innovative nationally and worldwide. This is the very first time in Finland, and among the first ones in the world when an artist restores environmental damage with environmental art planned for this and future generations.
