The Seinäjoki Tango Festival has become one of the biggest festivals in Finland - an audience of 100.000 people attend the 4 or 5-day festival yearly.

The Tango Singing Contest as the main event of the Tangomarkkinat Festival is well-recognised and has produced several successful artists. The tango composition and lyrics contest produces a large number of new tangos every year, some of them future evergreens. In addition there is a yearly contest in dancing, the Championship of Finland in Tango Dancing.

It is because of Tangomarkkinat that the traditional Finnish tango culture has again gained the interest and success it deserves. Not only the public but also the researchers have found the tango; in fact tango has been scientifically analysed from several different points of view. In this sense the Tango Festival has raised the quality and respect of the popular culture.

Tangomarkkinat has been noticed abroad as well. People from almost all the European countries and all over the world have come to Seinäjoki to be amazed and astonished by the passion that the Finns have for the tango.
